“The Row of Honor is a beautiful way to show gratitude to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety and freedom,” says Putnam County Executive, MaryEllen Odell, “This biannual tradition means so much to both veterans who have risked their lives for their country, and the families who have lost their loved ones.”

A flag can be sponsored for $100 dollars in the name of a loved one lost in the service of our country. All proceeds are given directly to VET2VET, a program that helps veterans suffering from PTSD, depression, and other difficulties, reintegrate into society.

The Putnam County Joint Veterans Council (PCJVC) and the Putnam County Veterans Service Agency is proud to announce that the Traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall will be in Putnam County.  The Wall will arrive on September 21st and be set up on September 22nd.  Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park will be open from September 22nd to the 25th , 24 hours per day for the public to see the Memorial Wall.  The event has many volunteer opportunities available.  We hope that you can take part in this wonderful event.

  • September 21st there will be an escort for the Wall from I-684 to the park. Staging at 3 p.m. – Departure 3:30 p.m.
  • We will be reading the names on the Wall 24 hours per day the entire time the Wall is up.  We need volunteers to do the reading of names. CLICK HERE TO VOLUNTEER
  • Since the Wall is open 24 hours per day we will need people or groups to stay overnight to welcome and help guests.
  • We will need people to locate the names on a computer and then escort the visitors to the Wall to take rubbings.
  • If you want to place a wreath Arrive at the Wall by 6 PM on 9/22 With your wreath to be placed during the opening ceremony
  • If any group would like to have a small ceremony at any time while the Wall is here they may schedule a time.

There will be several other ceremonies scheduled by the PCJVC while the Wall is here.  On the day the Wall arrives we will have a blessing of the Wall.  On the 22nd there will be a soft opening at 12:00 p.m. and a opening ceremony  at 7:00 p.m. On the final day we will have patriotic concert, then at 1 p.m. the closing ceremony begins. Immediately following, our Annual Gold Star Mothers Ceremony will take place. The wall will then be taken down and and sent to another venue.

As advocates for veterans and their families, Putnam County Veterans Service Agency counselors work closely with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and other federal, state, local, and private agencies to provide optimal service at the local level. Services include free accredited representation, securing military and personal records, obtaining medals and awards and assistance with veterans real property tax exemption filing and veterans medical ID card enrollment.

Department of Defense (DoD) Safe Helpline is a groundbreaking crisis support service for members of the DoD community affected by sexual assault. The Safe Helpline is operated by RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization.

Safe Helpline provides live, one-on-one advice, support, and information to the worldwide DoD community. The service is anonymous, secure, and available 24/7. Specially-trained Safe Helpline staff provide help three ways: online, telephone and SMS/text messaging.
