The mission of the Putnam County Department of Social Services is to provide for financial and Social Services to eligible residents of Putnam County in accordance with applicable Federal State and County Laws, toward enhancing family functioning, reducing dependency, preventing deterioration and maintaining adults and children in the community where possible. We accept applications for benefits every day we are open. See the individual program listing below for information on when interviews are conducted for those programs that may require them. Please call if you are unsure if you are required to have an interview.
Hudson Valley 2-1-1 going 24/7.
United Ways Hudson Valley 2-1-1 Region is pleased to announce the expansion of service to 24 hours a day seven days a week starting tomorrow, August 1st, 2017. 211 HV call center handles calls internally from 8 am – 10 pm, 7 days week and 10pm – 8 am calls handles through the after-hours service provider which is 211WNY (Buffalo region), 7 days a week.
Whatever the need, our 2-1-1 Call Center has the information and expertise to make the right connections.
HEAP interviews, when required, are 9:00 am to 10:30 am, Monday through Thursday.
SNAP interviews, when required, are 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Monday through Thursday.
Temporary Assistance (which is a two day process) 9:00 am to 10:30 am, Monday through Thursday.
Medicaid: Persons applying for Medicaid are not required to be personally interviewed. However, an interview may be requested.

Dial 1-844-697-3505 to reach a helpline for the Bureau of Adult Services to obtain information about available adult services. The helpline can also take information to be sent to local APS units regarding abuse, neglect, or exploitation of adults.
