Putnam Readies for Restaurant Week
Putnam County was well represented at the 10th Annual Hudson Valley Restaurant Week Kick-Off celebration held at Rivermarket Kitchen and Bar in Tarrytown on Monday, February 24. This year, 11 Putnam area restaurants are participating in the March 10-24 discounted dining event and County Executive MaryEllen Odell and Director of Tourism Libby Pataki were present for the official launch of the foodie festivities.
Restaurant Week was the brainchild of The Valley Table editors Janet Crawshaw and Jerry Novesky. The couple, whose magazine promotes Hudson Valley farms, food and cuisine and encourages placing locally produced wine, cheese, meat and produce on dining menus and tables, sought a project to help establish a firm ‘eat locally grown’ mindset. Thus, Hudson Valley Restaurant Week was born.
“Restaurant Week is always a foodie’s dream come true,” said Odell. “Diners can experience some of the best of what our Hudson Valley has to offer at truly reasonable prices. It is an event not to be missed. Restaurant Week is certainly an ‘If you build it, they will come’ example that has transformed the dining experience in the Hudson Valley.”
Putnam is in a prime position to draw new diners from nearby Westchester, Dutchess and Rockland Counties and to showcase its many farm-to-table menus. The 11 participating Putnam restaurants are among the nearly 200 fine dining establishments taking part in this year’s Restaurant Week. People are always ready to crossing borders for the purpose of experiencing new culinary delights which gives tourism a mid-winter boost.
“Putnam is within easy access of New York City residents who can travel north by train and spend a day exploring our quaint villages and towns and taking advantage of special lunch and a dinner pricing at extraordinary restaurants before returning home,” said Pataki. “We are also within an easy drive for those in neighboring counties who want to try new dining experiences. We can guarantee a great time and great food.”
During the annual two-week long event, participating restaurants offer special prix fixe, three-course dinners for only $29.95 and lunches for a mere $20.95 (beverages, tax and gratuities not included). For a list of participating Putnam restaurants, visit http://www.hudsonvalleyrestaurantweek.com.
