Odell Comments on Ball Announcing He Will Not Seek Re-Election
County Executive MaryEllen Odell wasn’t surprised to hear that Senator Greg Ball (R-Patterson) would not be challenging her in a Republican primary as she seeks re-election to her position in November. Rumors had been circulating about that for several days. And she wasn’t particularly surprised when she watched his videotaped message this morning in which he announced he would not be seeking re-election to his seat in the New York State Senate – or any other elected position.
“It’s understandable that, as he said, at this time in his life, it’s time to move into the private sector and do something else,” said Odell who once worked for Ball as his Director of Veterans Affairs in his Brewster office. “I certainly do wish him well in whatever direction and wherever he chooses to go.
“In his years of service to the residents he represented, Senator Ball has worked diligently to help his constituents in any way he could. He has always been a very visible state representative and his office was always willing to help in any way they could. I know our veterans and senior citizens are going to miss him.
“I hope that Senator Ball does find a life in the private sector and that he will find time to raise a family. That will certainly give him a deeper understanding of life – and, hopefully, a great deal of happiness.
“I thank Senator Ball for his years of public service and wish him all the best in the next chapter of his life.”
