IMPAIRED DRIVER PROGRAM STAFF
Thomas Doherty, Director, was a New York City teacher and administrator for 38 years. He was one of the first instructors in the Impaired Driver program, which began in 1975. He became director in 1984. Mr. Doherty has 500 hours training in Alcohol Counseling, completed in 1986.
Kathryn Harkavy, Ph.D., was a college professor for 25 years, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Humanities. She’s been working with people recovering from substance abuse for more than 30 years and has taught in the Impaired Driver Program since 2000.
David Grannis, BA, CAC (NYS Credential #3165) has been certified as an instructor by Prime for Life. He has over 10 years experience teaching the Putnam County IDP program and over 33 years continuous sobriety. He completed over 5000 hours as an inpatient alcohol therapist spending over four years coordinating in-house interventions and conducting inpatient alcohol assessments in accordance with Diagnostic System Manual guidelines.
Maria Calidonna, B.A., M.A.T., taught Literacy and English as a Second Language and has been working in alcohol and substance abuse recovery for more than twenty years. She is a certified Prime for Life instructor in the Impaired Driver Program.
Sonia Gaine has been the IDP program administrator since 1987. She coordinates class scheduling and is responsible for all aspects of student matriculation, including attendance and course completion requirements. Mrs. Gaine oversees student testing and is the DMV liaison. She speaks fluent Spanish.
