Former Emergency Services Commissioner McMahon Honored During Feb. 25 Ceremony

DSC09515State and Putnam County dignitaries gathered on February 25 as the FDNY Emerald Society Pipes and Drums opened a ceremony where County Executive MaryEllen Odell dedicated The Robert McMahon 911 Emergency Communications Center in honor of Putnam’s former Commissioner of Emergency Services, Robert McMahon. The ceremony was held at the county’s Training and Operations Center located off Old Route 6 in Carmel. It was during McMahon’s tenure as Commissioner, a position he held from January 2000 through August 2012, that the Putnam County Fire Training Center was expanded and the Training and Operations Center (TOPS) was constructed. Today, TOPS houses Putnam’s 911 Communications Center and the All Hazards Emergency Operations Center in a single state-of-the-art location. McMahon, a life-long Putnam County resident, is retired from the FDNY. He is a registered nurse, a former chief and life member of the Lake Carmel Fire Department, a NYS and FEMA certified training instructor and a member of the Board of Putnam Hospital Center.
