#ArtforParc is an art exhibit showcasing many works from individuals that receive support from the Arc of Putnam. This creative movement provides life-long learning, community service, and vocational opportunities through the creative arts for people with developmental disabilities of all ages in an environment of warmth, encouragement, and inclusion.

The Arc Putnam NY’s studio classes allow an individual to heal, inspire and create. This wonderful exhibit allows these moments to be captured in time. Travel over to the exhibit at 67 Main Street, Suite 101 in Brewster. Every Saturday meet the staff and participants of the Arc of Putnam from noon until 2 pm.

When a passerby walks into the Studio Around the Corner and happens to fall in love with a hand-painted figure or a sketch before learning that it was made by someone with a developmental disability, that piece of art has the opportunity to broaden their perspective. In other words, allowing art and artists to do what they do best. There is something magical about that. So please join us ~ for the month of February and enjoy this great exhibit.

“Art creates opportunities for all of us to learn about ourselves,” says Susan Limongello, the Executive Director ~ The Arc Putnam NY. “We really believe in the power of art.”

#ArtforParc is a lot like any other art class & studio time — it has big windows and a paint-splattered sink, it’s quiet enough to hear a paintbrush clink the sides of a water glass, and, of course, it’s full of art being created every day. The Arc of Putnam is so excited to have this fantastic exhibit at the Studio Around the Corner! Stop on in and embrace a cross section of creative works from the individuals at the Arc of Putnam. Visit our website for more information at www.arcputnamny.org.

Blue-Green Algae: Everything you wanted to know about it, but were afraid to ask

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 23, from 9 to 11 a.m. Blue-green algae will be the “hot” topic at a new health department seminar. Speakers from the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will discuss the most current information on this growing public health concern, including health risks, prevention and treatment methods. The event will take place at the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services, 112 Old Route 6 in Carmel. The snow date is Thursday, February 8, same time and location.
The general public is encouraged to attend and also submit specific questions and topics ahead of time. The seminar is being held early in the year to give bathing beach operators, surface water operators, private beach operators and public officials enough time to prepare for the 2018 summer swimming season. For further information or to submit a question and RSVP, please email vincent.perrin@putnamcountyny.gov by January 8.
