CARMEL, NEW YORK – June 6, 2018: Putnam County District Attorney announced today the conviction Manuel Estabon. Estabon pled guilty on June 1, 2018 to Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a class C felony.
On February 11, 2018 the defendant entered a taxi and asked to be taken to La Frontera restaurant in Brewster. While driving along Route 22, at approximately 2:45 am, the defendant leaned over from the back seat and began to slash at the cab driver’s neck with a knife. Miraculously, the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released at Putnam Hospital.
The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on August 1, 2018 to a period of five years state prison and five years post release supervision. The defendant currently has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold due to his status as an illegal immigrant. He will be deported following his prison sentence.
