Congratulations of the highest order are given to Robert Bruce, a member of Yorktown Heights Boy Scout Troop 174 on his successful completion of all requirements necessary to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement attainable in the Boy Scouts of America.
Achieving this rank is truly an accomplishment, Robert, and one you will undoubtedly consider a significant milestone in your life. Only five percent of young men involved in Scouting ever achieve the rank of Eagle. You soar among a select few.
Your Eagle Scout project, designing and building a kiosk near the Yorktown Town Hall will be easily accessible by those wishing to visit Patriot’s Garden or make use of the nearby bike trail. Your thoughtful creation of a map for the cyclists and the historical description of the railway that is now the bike trail will provide useful information for all who come to your kiosk and will be enjoyed by many for years to come.
Planning your project, obtaining the necessary approvals, recruiting volunteers and seeking donations, learning to delegate and oversee those involved in taking your wonderful plan and making it a reality, were key lessons learned and ones that will serve you well throughout your life.
During your years in Scouting, Robert, you learned much about nature, citizenship, personal fitness and management and emergency preparedness. Every merit badge you earned has presented you with insights to the worlds within these categories but most importantly, Scouting has taught you about yourself. There is no merit badge or particular award for that, but knowing oneself, recognizing your strengths and using them wisely will also serve you well throughout your life.
You have done exceedingly well, Robert. It is an honor for me to sign my hand to this Proclamation and to offer you my sincere congratulations.
