Be Prepared: Now and Year Round!—Part 1

05 March 2024

One week it’s warm outside; the next, it’s cold. Fortunately many tips for preparedness are seasonless. In addition to the unpredictable nature of weather, the specific challenges that may arise during severe weather are unpredictable as well: fallen trees, flooded roads and power outages. To be prepared for all emergencies and disasters, the Putnam County Department of Health will share some overall tips for safety and resilience over the next few weeks.

Tip One: Make a plan and prepare your home and your car. Have extra food, water, medicines and cash on hand at home for all family members and pets. Prepare and keep an emergency kit in your car in case you are stranded. It is also a good idea to have a “go bag” ready with needed medical information, including medications and prescriptions, along with other necessities that you can easily transport in case evacuation becomes necessary. Snap photos of important documents save them in a secure place or online. If evacuation is advised or necessary, keeping your car’s gas tank full is also advisable.
