Collaborative Concepts Farm Project 2020 changes location to Tilly Foster Farm, Brewster

Socially Distanced Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit for Families

View:  Sept 5 – Oct 31

Free to the Public

This fall Collaborative Concepts will hold its 15th annual sculpture exhibit at a new venue — Tilly Foster Farm.  If you have been longing to see art in person rather than virtually, this is your chance.  Collaborative’s show will allow you to walk an historic 199-acre farm while looking at large scale sculptural art.  You and your family can be safely socially distanced and wearing masks with space to roam and have fun.  No pets allowed.

For 2020, Collaborative Concepts is hosted for the first time by Putnam County at its historic Tilly Foster Farm in Brewster, NY.  For the past 14 years, this show was held at Saunders Farm in Garrison, NY, a lovely venue.  Collaborative Concepts warmly appreciates Sandy and Shelley Saunders for their years of hospitality and generosity.  Collaborative hopes to retain its traditional patrons while attracting new visitors from Putnam, Dutchess, Westchester and Connecticut.

Tilly Foster features pastoral vistas, hiking trails, a community garden, charming farm animals and a farm-to-table dining experience.  The show and the farm are open seven days a week, 10 am to 4 pm. The restaurant at Tilly Foster is open Thursday through Saturday 5-9pm and Sunday 11 am-3 pm and 5-9 pm.  On restaurant days, the farm gates stay open so visitors can dine before or after the show.  Visit Tilly’s Table at

Collaborative Concepts offers artists the freedom to create whatever they want, whether that is creating something grand, or silly, or experimental. It even gives them permission to fail.  Experimental art has always been encouraged at the Collaborative Concepts Sculpture show.  This year, Swiss sculptor, Gianni Biaggi will create a sculpture at Tilly Foster Farm.

For 2020, the artists have created works that center mostly around two themes.  The first theme is the Covid-19 pandemic.  Artists Anna Adler and Rudy Vavra built a “Shelter in Place” sculpture from trees, while Morgan Donohue’s “Prayer” expresses grief for those who have died and for their surviving loved ones.  Inez Andrucyk’s “The Circle Within” offers a calming energy for difficult times, and Kris Campbell’s larger-than-life hanging fiber flowers were created so visitors can take selfies to share on social media for those who are unable to come out.

The second theme among artists is nature.  Chuck Von Schmidt’s sculpture reveals a series of

“Penguins,” Gianni Biaggi will create a huge “Eulogy to the Worm” sculpture, while Natalya Khorover’s “Birds from Plastic” and Justin Perlman’s “Winter Bird” take to the air.  Hildreth Potts brings whimsey to the show with large “Sheep” of wire and steel wool.

The abstract pieces include monumental painted geometric sculptures by Max Yawney and Peter Schlemowitz as well as a spiritual sculpture by Chris Froehlich, hailing the “Four Directions.”

Visitors venture back into history at the 19th-century Tilly Foster Farm and are treated to pure fun as they engage art to experience peace and joy in this Hudson Valley setting.  Children of all ages are sure to enjoy visiting the Kunekune pigs, alpacas, miniature horses and a beautiful array of chickens, including Frizzle Cochin Bantams, Silkies and Ameraucanas.

Collaborative Concepts, a not-for-profit, non-membership organization of professional artists, brings together sculpture and installations by more than 40 local, regional, New York City and international artists. Spend the day with friends, family, and good humor — just remember to bring your masks!

The event is free of charge, open for self-guided tours seven days a week.  Be sure to visit as the autumn colors change the backdrop of the art.  Sculptures and Installations will be on view Sept. 5 – October 31.
