CARMEL, N.Y. – County Executive MaryEllen Odell is thrilled to announce that Putnam County Golf Couse will hold its second annual Amateur Golf Championship on Saturday, Aug. 15. Any individual with a USGA Handicap is welcome to play and enjoy a day out on the picturesque Putnam County Golf Course in Mahopac.
“Golfers from throughout the region have discovered what a jewel Putnam County Golf Course has become,” said Odell. “The Amateur Golf Championship is a wonderful opportunity for golfers of every skill level to challenge themselves and raise the bar to the next level.”
To ensure a fun and exciting event for all, golfers will be split up by age, gender and ability. Divisions include men’s regular, senior (over 60) and ladies for both handicap and non-handicap golfers.
“The Putnam County Amateur Championship offers any golfer the opportunity to compete,” said PGA Professional Jim Woods. “Many golfers have never felt the pressure of actually competing in a tournament where every score counts. I have always been about growing the game through lessons, competition and fun events, and this is our way of showcasing Putnam County Golf Course while providing an opportunity to win a trophy, and become part of the Putnam history that we started last year.”
“We expect this event to continue to grow into one of the premier amateur golfing events in the region,” said Putnam County Golf Course General Manager Mike McCall. “Jim Woods, our PGA Professional and his staff run a top notch tournament but when the competitors walk off the 18th hole the fun begins in the tavern where players can enjoy great food and drink while waiting for the scores to be posted one by one.”
