PUTNAM COUNTY PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT’S MISSION is to administer, in a fair and equitable manner, the provisions of New York State Civil Service Law and Putnam County Civil Service Rules with respect to the offices and employments in the classified service of Putnam County and the civil divisions therein, which include the towns, villages, school districts, libraries and special districts. It is Putnam County Personnel Department’s responsibility to ensure Putnam County taxpayers of a public workforce qualified for their jobs pursuant to the principles of selection according to merit and fitness as set forth in Article 5, §6 of the New York State Constitution.

Effective January 1, 2014, Article 5, §6 of the New York State Constitution was amended to entitle veterans who have used non-disabled veteran credits for a Civil Service appointment or promotion and who were/are subsequently certified as being a disabled veteran by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, to additional credits for a subsequent appointment or promotion. - Bachelors degree and minimum of seven (7) years high-level experience in fire and emergency services, disaster management, emergency planning and preparedness and/or emergency operations, including supervisory experience; or
- Associates degree and nine (9) years of the above-described experience; or
- High School Diploma or its equivalent and twelve (12) years of the above-described experience.

LABORERS for SNOW REMOVAL
Putnam County Highways & Facilities Department is seeking Temporary Laborers to assist in snow removal operations for the 2014-15 snow season. This is a 24 hour/day on-call position. Duties include shoveling/snow blowing at County Facilities through entire duration of a snow/ice event.
