What does this mean to You and your Family?
Renowned JP
Morgan Chase economist Marc Goloven coined the phrase
“Putnam Paradox.”
His research showed that TWO
THIRDS of the disposable income generated by
Putnam
residents is not spent in Putnam County . This results in
Putnam County
losing MILLIONS OF DOLLARS
in sales tax annually to neighboring municipalities.
What does this mean to you?
The Putnam
Paradox reaches into every wallet and pocket book in the
County.
By shopping outside of Putnam County and letting
neighboring municipalities
benefit from the sales tax on
their purchases, Putnam County residents are
literally
giving their money away.
That is because
less sales tax revenue collected by Putnam County results in
higher property
taxes. If sales tax revenue were to
increase, there would be no need to raise property taxes
in
order to keep necessary public services up and running.
Therefore,
YOU have control over how high your property taxes
will be. If you must pay sales tax
on your purchases anyhow,
why not spend them inside the County where they will work to
LOWER your property taxes?
