What can You do?

First of all, SHOP PUTNAM! Many new stores and businesses have opened over
the last several years in Putnam County . Show your support by frequenting them
instead of crossing the border to other commercial districts. Even incidental purchases,
such as filling up your car with gas, makes a difference. When you start out on a trip,
remember to fill your tank BEFORE you leave Putnam County .

Second, take a drive across the County to towns and villages you may not be familiar with.
The Village of Cold Spring offers many unique and interesting shops and can be a pleasant
outing for those residents on the east side of the County that don't often get there.
Conversely, those western Putnam residents who automatically drive north to Fishkill to
pick up home improvement items at the Home Depot on Route 9 should try driving east to
the relatively new Home Depot right off of I-84 in Southeast. Don't let your old habits be the
reason that Putnam County loses sales tax revenue!

Finally, support initiatives that foster smart, commercial growth in Putnam County.
Often, the common come back to the entreaty to “Shop Putnam” is “Shop Putnam? Where?”
Many proposed developments, that incorporate wise planning and a balance of all interests,
are lost before they even begin due to lack of support from the public. Planning Boards and
Town Boards need to hear from YOU as to whether or not a project is acceptable to the
community at large. Your vocal support is vital to the success of such developments.

With your help, we can eliminate the Putnam Paradox.
