HISTORY OF THE IMPAIRED DRIVER PROGRAM
The Impaired Driver Program was instituted by the N.Y. State legislature in 1975. In that year, Thomas Doherty and Bob Ginine began teaching with the program in Westchester County. They subsequently instituted the program in Putnam County in 1982. Thomas Doherty became the Putnam County program director in 1984.
Over the past thirty-five years the Putnam County DDP has developed a textbook encompassing the entire curriculum; it is updated on a regular basis. The present staff has an extensive background in the field of alcohol and drug education. Excellent educators, they help make this an exceptional program. Our administrator, Sonia Gaine, has been an integral part of our success for over twenty years, during which time she has helped more than 16,000 clients to address their many concerns.
