The purpose of the program is to provide an education on the impact of alcohol and drugs in driving. We serve all members of the community with a focus on those convicted of a drug or alcohol violation who seek to maintain their driving privileges. The Impaired Driver Program is part of New York State’s efforts to reduce personal and property losses caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs in all their forms.
The Impaired Driver Program helps participants to examine their arrest experience and its causes. It also helps them make appropriate decisions for the future. During the seven sessions participants are asked to consider the goals of the program and its requirements. Under the guidance of the director and staff, students discuss the social, medical, legal, and driver safety problems caused by substance abuse. The program includes classroom education, screening, and third-party evaluations when necessary.
The Putnam County Impaired Driver Program seeks an instructor for one evening class per week (2.5 hours per class).
