Food Service Protection

Temporary Residence Program / Children's Camps /
Hotels-Motels / Migrant Labor - Periodically inspects all
hotels, motels, children's camps, mobile home parks and
migrant labor camps. Evaluates their operations with regard
to safe, sanitary and adequately supervised activities.
Works with operators to rectify safety lapses, and reviews
site contingency plans for emergency situations and adequate
staffing by medically competent personnel. Sponsors safety
training sessions. Issues annual permits to operate.

Swimming Pools and Municipal Bathing Beaches - Provides
annual inspection and periodic inspection of operations to
assure compliance with State safety and sanitary codes;
investigates drowning and near-drowning incidents. Takes
periodic water samples, assures water quality and properly
chlorinated pools. Issues annual permits to operate. Does
not cover privately-run bathing beaches.

Indoor Air - Investigates complaints regarding quality of
indoor air.

Lead - Assists public with investigations of possible
lead contaminations.

Smoking and Tobacco - Directs several efforts at
restricting smoking in public places and at controlling and
eliminating sale of tobacco products to minors.

Public Health Complaints - Investigates complaints which
may cause damage or injury to life and health.

Enforcement - Schedules hearings by Administrative Law
Judge to review code violations and impose fines on those
that have not come into compliance and/or continue to
violate sanitary codes. May pursue civil actions against
those who continue in their violations, revoke operating
permits, or act to close a violator's facility.

Health Education - The goal is to improve the community's
health status by offering guidance and support of a healthy
lifestyle. The Health Educators reach out to residents on
topics such as cancer prevention, HIV,
Lyme Disease,
Rabies, injury prevention, and others. In addition, the
Educators work in partnership with other agencies and
organizations to address community health concerns.
