Mission Statement
The Division of Environmental Health Services is divided into two basic program areas: Public Health Engineering and Public Health Protection are together responsible for the protection of public health and safety through the implementation and enforcement of the Putnam County and New York State Sanitary Code, Rules, Regulations and Guidelines.
The Division functions as a review, regulatory, advisory and educational agency with respect to a wide range of health, safety and environmental concerns. Department staff investigate complaints from County residents and strive to educate the public concerning the necessary safeguards to maintain a healthful and safe environment. Appropriate enforcement authority is exercised when necessary to protect the public from actual or potential health hazards.
