Voter Registration
High voter participation is among the most
important prerequisites for creating a representative government
that is truly responsive to the needs and desires of the public.
Those who choose not to participate in the electoral process
silence their political voices and, consequently, sacrifice
their ability to influence the social and political evolution of
their communities. We encourage all those who are eligible
to vote not only to register, but to participate in any election
they feel strongly about. Voter eligibility is contingent
on a person satisfying each of the following criteria:
- Be a US citizen
- Be 18 years of age or older by the end of the year
Note: You must be 18 years old by the date of the
election in which you want to vote.
- Live at your present address at least 30 days before an
election
- Not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction
- Not claim the right to vote elsewhere
Persons meeting these qualifications can
New York State Voter Registration Form. Voters must be
registered twenty-five days before an election in order to be
eligible to vote in that election.
The Voter Registration Form can also be used
to inform the Board of Elections of a change of your name and/or
address, as well as to enroll in a political party or change
your party enrollment. Voters should be aware that changes
of party enrollment only go into effect once a year; they must
be filed twenty-five days prior to the General Election and will
go into effect seven days after the General Election.
Further information regarding voter
registration can be obtained from the
New York
State Board of Elections. If you cannot remember
whether you are registered to vote or enrolled in a party, you
can check
here. Voters who are unsure of where they vote can use
our
polling place locator to find this information.
