
The Putnam County Board of Elections is always looking to hire
new Election Workers. All positions are paid
and the hours are from 5:30 A.M. until the results have been
called in at the end of the evening. Please read the following
information to find out more about becoming an Election Worker.
General Qualifications:
- Must be a registered voter in Putnam County
- Must be affiliated with either the Democratic or
Republican Party
- Must be able to read and write English
- Must have transportation
- Must be able to work all day from 5:30 A.M. until the
results have been called in at the end of the evening.
- Must attend a training class prior to working each
election (Election Workers are paid $25 for
each class attended)
- Must take an annual Election Worker exam
Available Positions:
Poll Clerk: Responsible
for setting the party lever on the side of the voting machine
for primary elections. Also responsible for pushing the button
on the side of the voting machine to reset it every time a voter
enters the machine to vote. Additional responsibilities include
periodically checking throughout the day that the ballot on the
machine has not been defaced or marked up and the inside of the
machine has not been tampered with. The pay for this position is
$200.
Election Inspector:
Responsible for setting up the election district (emptying
suitcase, setting up supplies on table, hanging up signs, etc.).
Also responsible for locating voters’ names in poll books,
making sure voters are in their correct election district,
directing voters to their correct election districts, issuing
affidavit and emergency ballots when necessary, filling out any
required paperwork and assisting the Chair Election Inspector.
The pay for this position is $225.
Chair Election Inspector:
Must pick up the election suitcase the day before the election.
Responsible for overseeing all of the activities of the election
district and managing the three election workers and one poll
clerk. Also responsible for opening the machine in the morning
and closing the machine at night. Must tally the numbers on the
machine and any paper ballots at the end of the evening and call
in the results to the Board of Elections. Responsible for
returning the suitcase to the Board of Elections at the end of
the night. This position is reserved for more experienced
Election Workers and the pay is $250.
