Campaign Finance
Financial Disclosure Statements
NY State Election Law requires candidates and
their political committees to file Financial Disclosure
Statements.
The New York State Board of Elections
receives all filings of state parties and all political
committees supporting candidates for public office. In addition,
all State Senate and Assembly candidates are required to file
their financial disclosure(s) with the State Board. The state
requires these filings in an electronic format created by
free software available on their website. For
information on how to set up those campaign committees, forms
and state software, or to see information about their filing, go
to the
New
York State Board of Elections Website.
In addition to filing with the State, all
filings of party, county, town and legislative district
committees, and all political committees supporting candidates
for public office contained wholly within Putnam County or parts
thereof: county wide, city, towns, and county legislature, must
also file with the Putnam County Board of Elections.
A copy of the file sent to the state can be used to meet this
requirement as long as original cover sheet and status pages are
attached. Forms may be mailed or delivered in person. Additional
information on how to set up those campaign committees can be
obtained by calling 845-278-6970 or by visiting us at 1 Geneva
Rd, Brewster, NY, 10509. Those filings are open to public
inspection Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Board
of Elections.
Each candidate or political committee is
required to file at least two times a year. In a year in which
the candidate is running at least three additional filings are
required. In the event of a primary, three additional filings
are required.
IRS
For all campaign committees there may be some
IRS requirements. They can be found at the
Internal Revenue Service website.
